Esteban Gutiérrez reaches Semifinals in Not The GP Versus

Esteban Gutiérrez excelled by reaching the semifinals of the Not The GP Versus race, which had a grid full of professional drivers and experienced players in virtual competitions.

The format of this race consisted of face-to-face duels, that allowed the Mexican driver to face Real Madrid goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois.

After winning the first round, Gutiérrez beat his teammate, Stoffel Vandoorne, who was disqualified for taking the Mexican out of the race a few meters before crossing the finish line.

In the semifinals, Esteban faced McLaren’s driver Lando Norris, one of the strongest and most experienced drivers in Esports. Although Gutiérrez managed to prevail without any problem in the first round, the British tied the duel in the second.

For the tiebreaker, Esteban started in second position without letting Norris increase the lead. However, a few meters before crossing the finish line, they collided. The Mexican tried to pass Lando on the inside, but the british driver hit the brakes earlier trying to protect himself from Esteban’s pressure. Even though Esteban was disqualified for this action, it was a great battle from the beginning to the end.

“This format was a great experiment from Veloce because it made the competition very exciting for us and for the fans. I enjoyed racing against Thibaut, against Stoffel and especially against Lando. He is an experienced driver in esports and it was very entertaining to compete against him”, explained Esteban.

A technical failure prevented Esteban from participating on the second official date of F1 Esports, which took place at the Albert Park Circuit in Melbourne; had had qualified 13.

“It is a pity that I could not participate on the Formula One race, which was the race that I have been preparing for. A technical failure in the game prevented me from participating. These types of failures have to be fixed to avoid any driver being left out in the future. This situation caused that both Lando and I could not compete”, he said.

“Now, I will be preparing for the next virtual race that will be in Shanghai on April 19th” he said.
